BISMARCK, N.D. — Bismarck State College is using a nearly $100,000 federal grant to better train nurses at North Dakota’s rural medical centers.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the school’s nursing program recently received the grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a mobile simulation lab and a new life-like mannequin. The lab will be set up in the back of an ambulance that will travel to students at medical centers in Hazen, Harvey, Ashley, Garrison and eventually Hettinger.

The college’s nursing students at the rural satellite sites often have to travel to Bismarck for clinical experience. The mobile lab ensures students in rural areas receive the same quality of education as the students in Bismarck. The program will also help recruit nurses in rural areas, where there are often shortages.
