The National Institutes of Health has awarded a grant of more than $3 million to Cal State San Marcos psychology professor Keith Trujillo so that he may continue his work to increase diversity in the biomedical and behavioral sciences.
The grant — $3.2 million over five years — will establish a program called U-RISE@CSUSM, which will help students prepare for graduate studies and science careers. U-RISE is a national program whose name stands for Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement. Its goal is to develop a diverse pool of undergraduates who earn baccalaureate degrees and then move into biomedical, research-focused higher-degree programs.
